A message from The Lay Dean, David Millican

We look forward to welcoming you to the Garrowby Hill. The benefice that we have in Garrowby Hill is in one of the most beautiful and tranquil parts of Yorkshire and with literally something for everyone. The benefice sits within the Deanery of South Wold with its six benefices and thirty-one churches.

This group of worshipping communities is really cohesive and there is a great determination amongst the PCCs to work together, each group having its own talents. In following the Living Christ’s Story programme there is a real move to raise the freewill offer to meet the actual costs of ministry and therefore share in a practical way the work of the Diocese.

We have an active Chapter which meets regularly and a Deanery Synod which works to promote matters of interest to all participants.

There are opportunities for growth and especially with the opening of a new prison in Full Sutton which will bring an estimated five hundred new jobs to the area.

The connection with the schools plays a really important part of the life of these churches, being meaningful to both the parishes and to the children and staff. These links bring children and families into the churches.

Covid brought about new form of worship for this group and there is now an active online ministry, reaching many families, it is believed, outside the area.

We hope that a new priest will continue the good works of the retiring incumbent, continuing to work in the community as well as in the churches. The full support of the Deanery will be available.
